Sleep eludes me
On hot nights
So sticky you could wrap them around your finger
And eat them
Like cotton candy

I cannot close my eyes
When the moon glints off the frost in the darkness
Revealing an icy, ethereal world
Of beauty
That could shatter into fairy dust
In one ragged puff of breath

The Man in the Moon
Intoxicates me with lullabies
That do not entice me to slumber,
But to dance

Thoughts shuttle behind my eyelids
On every night between sweet summer air
And fragile winter snowshine

Who can sleep
When dreams are at your doorstep?
